Getting an app password

Proton Mail → Settings → Proton Bridge → enable IMAP/SMTP → create mailbox password

Step-by-step migration

  1. Enable Proton Bridge (or use your plan's import/export tools)
  2. Generate an IMAP mailbox password in Proton
  3. Sign up at NevTan Mail and verify your domain
  4. Import mail over IMAP via Bridge
  5. Point MX records at NevTan Mail
  6. Forward from Proton during transition

Things to know before you switch

  • Proton uses E2EE — direct IMAP requires Proton Bridge (paid or Mail Plus)
  • Alternatively export and import via standard tools
  • You're likely paying ~€84/user/yr — the savings case is strong
