Keyboard shortcuts
Send feedbackNevTan Mail's shortcuts are for writing. They let you address a message, send it or park it without leaving the keyboard, which is where most of the typing happens anyway.
In the compose window
These work while a compose window has focus. On a Mac, use ⌘ wherever Ctrl is shown.
| Shortcut | Does |
|---|---|
Ctrl + Enter | Sends the message, exactly as the Send button does. |
Ctrl + S | Saves the message as a draft straight away, rather than waiting for the automatic save. |
Ctrl + Shift + C | Opens the Cc field and puts the cursor in the recipients, ready to type. |
Ctrl + Shift + B | Opens the Bcc field the same way. |
In the recipient fields
While you are typing in To, Cc or Bcc:
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
Enter or Tab | Finishes the entry you are typing. If the suggestion list is open, this takes the highlighted suggestion, so a few letters of somebody's name becomes their address. |
, | Also finishes the entry, which is what makes pasting a comma-separated list work. |
See Composing email for how the suggestions are chosen and what happens when nothing matches.
Reading a conversation
- Collapsed messages can be reached with
Taband opened withEnterorSpace, so an older message in a thread can be read without the mouse.
Good to know
- Only the window you are typing in reacts. With several compose windows open at once, a shortcut applies to the one that has focus, not all of them.
Ctrl + Shift + Cdoes not work in Chrome. The browser keeps it for its own developer tools and never passes it to the page, so no website can use it — Gmail has the same limitation. Use the Cc button instead.Ctrl + Sis caught deliberately, so your browser's own "Save page as" window does not open over the top of your message.
Where shortcuts apply
- The list above is the complete set. It is worth knowing so you are not hunting for one that was never there.
- The message list has none. There is no single-key shortcut for opening, starring, archiving or deleting from the list — those actions are on the toolbar above an open message, covered in Organizing your inbox.
- Your browser's own shortcuts still work throughout — the usual find, reload and tab switching behave normally, because NevTan Mail only intercepts the handful of combinations listed here.
